New Mexico Economic Development Secretary Jon Barela will be the featured speaker at the April MVEDA Business in the Borderplex luncheon. Secretary Barela will deliver an update on New Mexico’s economic development landscape and future opportunities.

During his tenure, Barela has been praised for his work to reduce the regulatory burden on job creators. He established the Office of Business Advocacy within the department to assist businesses navigate the state regulatory, licensing and permitting process. Nearly 2,000 jobs have been created or saved as a result of this initiative. Through Barela’s leadership, New Mexico has moved from 38th to 1st in the country in terms of export growth and has been widely recognized for promoting New Mexico’s products and services abroad, including a 60 percent increase in exports to Mexico.

The luncheon will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 from 11:30 AM until 1:00 PM at the Hotel Encanto de Las Cruces, 705 S. Telshor. The meeting will begin with a hot entree buffet.
