The August meeting of the MVEDA Business in the Borderplex Forum will be held on Tuesday, August 6, 2013 from 11:30 AM until 1:00 PM at the Hotel Encanto de Las Cruces, 705 S. Telshor. The meeting will begin with a hot entree buffet. This month’s forum will focus on three ongoing planning processes in Doña Ana County

Denise Weston of Bohannan Houston, Inc. and Will Gleason of Dekker/Perich/Sabatini will discuss the Comprehensive Plan for Sustainable Development and the Camino Real Corridor Plan. The purpose of the Comprehensive Plan for Sustainable Development is a broad statement of community goals and policies that direct the orderly and coordinated physical, economic and social development of the County. The Camino Real Corridor Management Plan is being developed for the primary purpose of enhancing the quality of life and economic competitiveness along the corridor through a sustainable, smart growth planning approach while concurrently fostering the preservation and enhancement of the corridor’s intrinsic qualities.

William (Bill) Anderson of AECOM will give a brief presentation of the Border Economic Development Plan.  The Border Economic Development Plan will outline continued steps to strategically capitalize on the current industry trends and success surrounding Santa Teresa and aims to improve the quality of life in Doña Ana County by identifying strategies to increase higher paying, higher skilled jobs available to residents of the NM Borderplex.

Denise Weston, AICP (Bohannan Houston, Inc.)
As a Senior Planner with BHI, Denise Weston has more than 20 years of experience with an emphasis on transportation, environmental, and land use planning, as well as public involvement.  She has worked in both the public and private sector managing projects, creating documents, and establishing consensus on a wide variety of planning initiatives.  She is a certified planner with a Masters in Planning from Arizona State University.  Bringing her local knowledge and experience in Doña Ana County, she is the Deputy Project Manager on the Doña Ana Comprehensive Plan and El Camino Real Corridor Plan.

Will Gleason, AICP, LEED AP (Dekker/Perich/Sabatini)
An Associate and Senior Planner at D/P/S, Will is committed to creating places that have enduring value. He specializes in corridor plans and large scale master planning efforts that require a high level of coordination between various disciplines and extensive public outreach. Will is a seasoned project manager adept at overseeing complex projects and coordinating team efforts. A certified planner and LEED accredited professional, Will received his Master of Community and Regional Planning from the University of New Mexico. Currently, his main projects are managing the Doña Ana Comprehensive Plan and El Camino Real Corridor Plan, both complex projects that require coordinating team efforts.

William (Bill) Anderson (AECOM)
Mr. Anderson, FAICP, is a Principal/Vice-President at AECOM, overseeing the Economics + Planning practice for the western US offices.  Previously, he was Director of City Planning & Community Investment for the City of San Diego, where he oversaw Planning, Economic Development, Redevelopment, Urban Form, and Facilities Financing.  In this capacity, he directed the update to San Diego’s General Plan, which received the American Planning Association’s Daniel Burnham Award for Excellence in Comprehensive Planning.  Prior to his tenure at the City of San Diego, he was a Senior Vice President with Economics Research Associates, where he worked on almost 300 assignments in 20 states and 8 countries.  From 1995-2003, he was a member and chair of the City of San Diego Planning Commission.
