October Business on the Border Forum Is All About Space
The October meeting of the MVEDA Business on the Border Forum will be held on Tuesday, October 5, 2010 from 11:30 AM until 1:00 PM at the Hotel Encanto de Las Cruces, 705 S. Telshor. The meeting will begin with a hot entree buffet followed by a brief update by MVEDA staff.
Dr. Pat Hynes, Director of the New Mexico Space Grant Consortium (NMSGC) at New Mexico State University, will be the featured speaker. The New Mexico Space Grant Consortium was recently selected by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as a 2010 Center of Excellence for Commercial Space Transportation. The NMSGC annually hosts the International Symposium on Personal and Commercial Spaceflight, the largest symposium of its kind in the U.S. NMSGC also sponsors the annual Education Launch Program which provides access to space for students in New Mexico to answer science and engineering questions.

Dr. Garrey Carruthers
Dr. Garrey Carruthers, Dean of the NMSU College of Business and Vice President for Economic Development, and Dr. Kevin Boberg, Associate Dean of the NMSU College of Business and CEO for the Arrowhead Center, will speak at the luncheon. The focus of the presentation will be on the growth and opportunities for small businesses in the Arrowhead Business and Research Park and Arrowhead Center’s Entrepreneurship Institute and TECHSTART Incubator.

August Business on the Border Forum Features Technical Assistance Program
The August meeting of the MVEDA Business on the Border Forum will be held on Tuesday, August 3, 2010 from 11:30 AM until 1:00 PM at the Hotel Encanto de Las Cruces, 705 S. Telshor. The meeting will begin with a hot entree buffet followed by a brief update by MVEDA staff.
Leigh Schutzberger, Project Manager for the New Mexico Small Business Assistance Program, will be the featured speaker. The New Mexico Small Business Assistance (NMSBA) Program allows New Mexico small businesses facing technical or business challenges to access the unique expertise and capabilities at Los Alamos and Sandia national laboratories. NMSBA technical assistance projects are provided at no cost to the small businesses. Los Alamos and Sandia national laboratories operate NMSBA as a single program in partnership with the State of New Mexico.

Clay Doyle
Clay Doyle, Vice President of New Mexico Affairs for El Paso Electric (EPE), will be the featured presenter for the luncheon.He will discuss El Paso Electric’s new seasonal rate structure. Also accompanying Mr. Doyle will be Mr. Paul Royalty, Manager of Energy Efficiency Programs for El Paso Electric, who will be presenting information on EPE’s energy efficiency programs and incentives.

The April meeting of the MVEDA Business on the Border Forum will be held on Tuesday, April 6, 2010 from 11:30 AM until 1:00 PM at the Hotel Encanto de Las Cruces, 705 S. Telshor. The meeting will begin with a hot entree buffet.
In response to a number of questions raised during the March Forum, the April presentation will feature a panel of commercial lenders discussing a variety of financing options for new development projects. Panel members will include representatives from:
