USDA Announces Rural Energy Training

The USDA Rural Development will hold training on two federal programs designed to help support rural businesses, create new markets for agricultural products, and assist our country in becoming more energy independent. The training sessions will be held on Monday, February 28, 2011 from 1:30-3:30pm in Room 127 at the DACC Workforce Center, 2345 E. Nevada in Las Cruces.

Eligible applicants for the Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) are agricultural producers and rural small businesses; program provides grants and loan guarantees for renewable energy systems and energy efficiency improvements for business/commercial (not residential).

Eligible applicants for the Value Added Producer Grant Program (VAPG) are independent producers, farmer or rancher cooperatives, agricultural producer groups, and majority-controlled producer based business ventures; program provides grants for value-added planning and working capital.

Attendance is free but RSVP is encouraged to ensure sufficient seating and handouts. New Mexico Tax Incentive and Accounting 101 Workshop – November 4, 2010

New Mexico offers several business and tax incentives for companies operating within the state. This workshop, sponsored by the New Mexico Small Business Development Center and the Arrowhead Center, will explain the incentives that are relevant to your business and how to apply or register for each. Aspects on Accounting 101 for small businesses will be discussed, including which records you should keep to help you take advantage of the state incentives in the most effective manner.

Featured speakers for the workshop will be Wendy Boetticher, Everett & Botticher, PC, and Davin Lopez of MVEDA. It will be held from 8:00-10:30 a.m. at the DACC Workforce Center, 2345 E. Nevada, Room 127 in Las Cruces. There is no cost for the workshop.

SBA 8(a) Business Development Program Application Workshop – October 13, 2009

The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at the Dona Ana Community College is hosting a SBA 8(a) Business Development Program Application Workshop on Tuesday, October 13, 2009 from 12:00 noon through 3:00 p.m. The workshop will be held at the DACC Workforce Center, 2345 E. Nevada, Room 127, in Las Cruces.

The workshop will assist small business owners in:

  • Learning about the SBA 8(a) certification process and discovering the benefits of the SBA 8(a) program participation;
  • Finding avenues for marketing, networking, sub-contracting and business development;
  • Gaining valuable knowledge about the SBA 8(a) program business development and government contracting opportunities;
  • Learning of the success of the SBA 8(a) program in New Mexico;
  • Discovering other programs, certifications, and services available to small business through federal government agencies, and SBA Resource Partners (Central Contractor Registration, Hub-Zone, etc.);
  • Receiving guidance for applying electronically for SBA certifications.
