The New Mexico Economic Development Department, in collaboration with the New Mexico Manufacturing Extension Partnership is offering a low-cost New Mexico 9000 training class to help prepare New Mexico small businesses for the ISO 9001 Certification.

The New Mexico 9000 training class will be held on Friday June 22nd at the New Mexico State University Albuquerque branch, 4501 Indian School Rd. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87110 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

The New Mexico 9000 program was created by the Economic Development Department to provide training and assistance to New Mexico businesses. The New Mexico 9000 training class will help New Mexico businesses develop skills in preparation for ISO 9001: 2008. Training will be broken into six half-day sessions, which can be completed in as little as 3-6 months, with the participant setting the pace.

“This is an important program for small businesses in New Mexico and I hope that companies will take advantage of the New Mexico 9000 program,” Secretary of Economic Development Jon Barela said. “This will make New Mexico small businesses able to compete for contracts at companies locally such as Intel and Boeing, and organizations like Sandia and Los Alamos National Labs along with corporation and governments nationally and internationally.”

Why Should Small Businesses Become ISO Compliant?

 •  ISO is a general Quality Management System.

•   INTEL, Boeing, and many other companies are requiring that their first tier suppliers be ISO 9001 certified. In turn, those suppliers are requiring that their suppliers be ISO 9000 certified. Governmental agencies such as DOD, NASA and NNSA are also requiring ISO certification of their providers.

•   The ISO 9000 standards have been adopted by 178 countries. There are more than 1 million companies worldwide that have registered to the ISO standards.

•   Costs associated with obtaining, maintaining, and renewing your ISO registration are tax deductible (IRS Bulletin 2000-04).

The cost of the New Mexico 9000 training classes is based on annual company sales revenue, ranging from $550 to $3,300 for the training.
